Y.E.S. Program

Last updated: January 21, 2010

DID YOU KNOW…?
Kwantlen Park now has a YES Program!

What is the Y.E.S. Program?
The Y.E.S. program (Youth Educational Support Program) supports at-risk and vulnerable students in coping with issues that interfere with their academic performance.  We strive to utilize and build on a student’s strengths, build their self esteem and feelings of worth, foster a sense of belonging in the school and larger community, and to provide an incentive to stay in school.  We also offer a breakfast and a lunch program during the morning and lunch hour drop-in times!

Who are the Y.E.S. workers?
I am the Coordinator of the YES Program and am here on a daily basis and I’m delighted to be entering my 2nd year in this position.  The Y.E.S. workers (identified by their YES badges) are practicum students from local colleges and universities who are learning how to work with youth.  They come from various programs such as Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Human Services, Nursing etc. and spend their practicums with us in the YES Program. Y.E.S. workers develop and maintain a caseload of students they will support for the duration of their practicums, in addition to developing and implementing activities, groups or programs for students.

Where is Y.E.S. located?
We are in Portable 9, just outside the Den.  We are open throughout the school day.  Though we are available to students primarily before school, at lunch-time and after school, with teacher permission a student may also request to see us at other times.  You will regularly see us walking within the school and connecting with students.

When and how do I refer a student?
Any and all students can access YES and can be referred ANYTIME by almost anyone!   I can be reached at 604-588-6934 ext 2378, or forman_d@sd36.bc.ca.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our program or any of the initiatives and activities we are running.

Sincerely,
Dynell Forman
